Cushty! What did the critics think of Only Fools and Horses - The Musical?

Now playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

Jim Sullivan and Paul Whitehouse's musical adaptation of the TV giant finally landed in London's West End. Opening at the Theatre Royal Haymarket last night (February 19) was Only Fools and Horses - The Musical cushty for the critics?

The Evening Standard praised the production saying "Whitehouse and Sullivan Jr present an appealing ebullient compendium of what we loved most about the show, serving up ample helpings of wit, pluck, graft, and family loyalty". They continued with "There's much knees-uppery in the score, which essentially sounds as though it has been written by Chas and Dave...In an era of international musicals, this unashamedly British night out is a change and a treat."

The Sun also praised the musical, awarding it five -stars, the paper honoured the leading stars saying "Tom Bennett, who plays Del Boy, ducks and dives around the stage 'with more bounce than Zebedee" while Ryan Hutton nails the role of dippy younger brother Rodney."

However, the Guardian had some misgivings about the production saying, "The finest collection of vintage gags on the London stage should allow the show to make a fair amount of what Del Boy calls 'lovely jubbly'. But, as a musical, a few too many of the songs are, to borrow again from the Trotter lingo, plonkers". But, they also praised the show saying that the "comic dialogue is so delightful,"
